WORKSHOP: “The Pyramus & Thisbe Variations”

A three-week Voice & Text workshop with Kristin Linklater, Alessandro Fabrizi and Susan Main.

The workshop will be dedicated to the tale of Pyramus & Thisbe in its version from Ovid’s Metamorphoses and its re-appearance in masterpieces such as Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Torquato Tasso’s Aminta. Participants will be offered daily classes of Linklater voice work and text exploration. The mission is to create and cultivate the time and space for deep exploration and creative expression while fully embracing this singular opportunity to work with a diverse group of actors and teachers hailing from all over the world, boasting a variety of backgrounds and speaking numerous languages (classes will be held primarily in English, with Italian translation when necessary). The workshop will produce site-specific performances as well as a final performance in the outdoor Amphitheater of Stromboli.

The workshop is designed for professional actors and students of acting who have some experience with the Linklater technique, as well as Linklater teachers-in-training. To apply, please submit a resume/bio and letter of intent to Alessandro Fabrizi or Susan Main.

2012 Schedule/Details:

  • Classes from May 30th to June 24th (final presentation/performances evenings of June 21-23)
  • Daily: 3-hour morning voice/text sessions and 3 to 4-hour afternoon sessions
  • Occasional evening sessions
  • Total of 120 hours of class time
  • Maximum 18 participants

Food:

  • Dinners will be catered every night (except on days off) on the terrace of the Pensione La Nassa
  • Local grocery stores, coffee shops and restaurants will provide special discounts for participants
  • Participants will have use of the kitchen at Pensione La Nassa for breakfast and lunch

Travel to Stromboli:

  • From Naples: overnight ferry (Tuesdays and Fridays at 8pm)
  • From Milazzo: ferry/hydrofoil (every day approximately every hour from 6am-2pm)
  • Other options: flight to Catania, bus to Milazzo, then ferry from Milazzo; or train/flight to Reggio Calabria and ferry from Reggio Calabria

Cost:

  • Workshop fee 1500 euros
  • Accomodation choices: Single Room: 900 euros, Double Room: 700 euros, Triple Room: 600 euros.
  • Catered Dinners: 415 euros
